RND2000v2 (ReadyNAS Duo v2) cant factory reset. Dont remember password or the question

I have a RND2000v2 (ReadyNAS Duo v2)

Had 2 disks in it, its been running since 2012.

1 disk broke, but i cant find the password for adminpage. Cant remember the answer to the question te reset my password.

then i tried to do a factory reset by hold th reset button. But nothing happens.

Must have tried 100 times.

Is there a way around this or shall i throw the NAS in the garbage?

Stefan

  • A lot of Duo v1 owners mistakenly think they have a Duo v2 - and it is important to know what you have in this case.

    A Duo v1

    • says ReadyNAS Duo on the front panel
    • runs 4.1.x firmware
    • might have other labels that say v2.

    A Duo v2

    • says ReadyNAS Duo v2 on the front panel
    • runs 5.3.x firmware

There is an OS reinstall process you can also try from the front panel - that would reset the NAS admin password.  But the details on how to do this depend on the platform, so we should confirm that you have a v2 before going into that.  The OS reinstall would preserve your data (unlike the factory reset).

You may want to check if you have the V1 here.

IF yes, then try the procedures on this link.

I suggest testing both drives in a Windows PC (connecting them either with SATA or a USB adapter/dock), and testing them with vendor tools - Lifeguard for Western Digital, and Seatoold for Seagate.  Label the drives as you remove them from the NAS.

If you have data you need to offload, you can use R-Linux for Windows with disk 1.  Unfortunately that won't work for disk 2, so if disk 1 failed you'd be out of luck.

One other thing you can try is zeroing the working disk with Lifeguard or Seatools.  Then put it back in the NAS and power up.  The NAS should automatically do a factory install when it detects an unformated disk.
