How on earth do I connect to this with a mobile or a tablet if I am not on my home network. So for example if I am at a friends house, how do I stream a movie to their TV using localcast for example.

With Netgear having taken down ReadyNAS Remote, there is no longer an easy and secure way to do that on the legacy NASes. You could forward a port on your router to access the NAS, but that's risky. A couple more secure ways are via a VPN or remote access to a computer on your home network. But I know of no VPN add-on for OS5.x, so you'd have to implement it via your router or a PC. I've not investigated methods of using remote access to a PC for this.
BTW, the upload speed of your home network probably won't support high resolution in real time.
