Seems to me that your Duo has a 3 year warranty - so if you act promptly you should be able to get an RMA replacement (assuming "well over 2 years" is less than 3!
Transferring the drives would require you to purchase a Duo or NV+ V1, not the newer V2 (and not the ultra or pro line).
It is possible to recover the data from your Duo without purchasing a new unit, though it does require the right software tools.
