RND4210V3 Solid State Drive

I have a ReadyNAS 4210 V3 which works but is getting slow. I would like to update to Solid State Drives. Are Solid State Drives compatible with the ReadyNAS 4210 V3?

  • Hi GBul

    Welcome to the Community!

SSDs might be a good idea for an upgrade but not much of SSDs are listed on the compatible list of drives for the ReadyNAS System for the RND4000/RND4210. There are a members who have tried to use SSDs but we're not sure if you'll have the same experience using it on RND4200s.

There are post as well that it might cause different issues when it comes to it's SMART values as It might provide inaccurate data when it comes to reporting issues with the drive.

Also, RND4200/RND4210 is pretty old and with what you are experiencing on performance, the SSD might not be able to provide that much benefit to your RND4210. SSDs are most advised to units with 10G connection since it will most benefit from the SSD's feature/function.

IMO, upgrading your NAS to a more powerful OS 6 Unit before going with SSDs might be the best way to go.

Here are some posts from users regarding SSDs

    SSD Drive use

    ReadyNAS Upgrade to SSD

    Hope this heps!

Thank you Marc_V for responding to my post. Needing an immediate answer to upgrade my NAS I ended up signing up for Techincal Support, which gave the same advice as you provided, but with much less detail. I could have saved a hefty subscription fee if I could have waited for your response.

I replaced my failing drive with a mechanial one, though it was not on the no longer updated approved drive list, and my NAS is opperating efficiently again.

Your posts were very helpful in validating the choice that I ended up makeing.

Thank you for taking the time to research my issue.
