Set up rsync from Synology NAS to Netgear Ultra 6.10.8

This is the settings for the Synology NAS. "Backup_Stor-NAS" is the destination file share on the Netgear. I am not sure what a backup module is. However the Synology NAS accepts the settings.

These are the sittings for the Netgear.

After a While an error message occurs.

"Failed to connecting to the destination server. Check and try again:

- the destination server connection to an active network.

- the rules for port forwarding on the destinations server"

Any idea what´s wrong?

  • I would say it is on the ReadyNAS side.

You are using rsync backup, but you are showing us you smb setting on the ReadyNAS.

Make sure the rsync setting on the destination folder allows "Read/Write". The default is "Read" only. Obviously, you can't back up to a read-only folder.

  • Hey Olle,

The answer is probably on the Syno DSM rtfm under the subject "Setting up rsync backup with Synology DiskStation", stating under General

There are 2 backup modes for backing up from Synology DiskStation to your rsync-compatible server:

    1. remote shell mode > mode will be enabled only when you enter an absolute path (starting with "/") in Backup module, and it only supports encrypted backup.
    2. rsync > is used when you select a backup module (shared folder on the rsync-compatible server) from the drop-down menu next to Backup module.

    Nothing ReadyNAS 8-)

....was talking of the referred Backup Module. Seriously ReadyNAS?

With the rsync destination ponting to a shared folder with read-only )or more likely non-existant), things are difficult.
