Cable Modem Webstar EPC2203 -> Router D-Link DIR-655
Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043]
Memory: 1024 MB [2.5-3-3-7] (Kingston KVR400X64SC3A, on compability list)
HDD: 4 x TB Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EADS 1.5TB 32MB
The WD disks should, along with the UPS, be on some sort of
unofficial compability list me thinks
APC Back-UPS ES BE700-GR
Works great, readynas shuts down at 10% charge on 'auto' setting.
Don't know if the autosetting also monitors 'minutes remaining'
on the UPS, but if my PC and display would have been attached aswell
10% would have been dangerously close to the mark imho...
Tue Jul 21 14:11:14 CEST 2009 UPS is shutting down system.
Tue Jul 21 14:11:12 CEST 2009 UPS battery is low; system will shutdown soon.
Tue Jul 21 13:23:49 CEST 2009 UPS is on battery power.
Machines that mainly access the readynas
PC 3.0GHz / 6GB / Asus P5N-D mobo (w/o jumboframes), Windows Vista x64, wired
Lenovo S10e (netbook), Windows 7 / Mac OS x, wireless
If I send a large file to the device the writespeed is about 21 MB/s,
the readspeed is around 32 MB/s (windows). Iometer reports almost 8MB/s higher
values in both directions though when sending 1GB ? Journaling disabled btw.
Tried enabling jumboframes using a D-Link DGE-530T on a slightly older XP machine,
but I didn't get any transfer speed improvements at all sadly...yet
Biggest disappointment
ReadyNAS Photos. Memory might serve me wrong, but if this is included with the unit
it shouldn't be. It's shockingly slow, even locally. Thumbnails not rendering for
some photos (different ones randomly, timeouts?), I even failed to find how someone
could save the original sized photos to their computers. I sent links out to some
friends but no one had the patience to try it out for long...
It might we worth mentioning that I have a DSLR and the photos are usually some
8-11 MB a piece.
On the + side, all main features behaves well and works great. I had some initial
problems with email alerts but I think Raidiator 4.1.6 fixed it.
I just Installed and memtested the 1GB so all tests here were done with the original
256MB stick.
I've read quite a few posts on the forum and it seems that most members and the Council
themselves are quite patient and helpful, so cheers for that.
Also, please stop with the pics, you're making me envious ;)
And, err, may the... UPS... be with ya, always
