Shares access

Hi Guys

Had to do a complete factory reboot , have replaced my Hdd drives with new ones , all up and running only thing is I cant access any shares I have made , I can only access the two default ones it builds ie media and backup , but not new shares I never put a password on them and am the only person that access Nas . Only for home use

I did not put any passwords on them but keeps asking for credentials, have even tried using admin log in details but nothing can anyone help with this

 All so have a question regarding email alert, not receiving anything for Nas , am using a bt internet account ,Can anyone help with is too

  • You may have had Share access enabled before.  That has been depreciated for several firmware updates, but it was still available if you already had it enabled.  Once you did a factory default with the current firmware, you lost that capability.

     

    So, instead of passwords for shares, there are passwords for users and those users are given access to specific shares.  You can always use the admin credentials for file access, but it is better if you create another user name.  If you make the user name and password the same as you use for Windows, then Windows will provide the password to the NAS and you won't need to log on.  Alternatly, you can save the name and p[assword in the Windows Credential Manager.

     

    CIFS access also allows for "guest access", but Windows has made it difficult to log in as a guest.  I'm not sure why you aren't being asked for user credentials for every share.

      Thnks for reply , have only just rebooted and put drives back in so havent even tocuched any settings , so how do i make a user and etc , as i said before all this was set up and done for me

        Go to Security/User & Group Accounts.  With the pull-down in the upper right set to Manage Users, select the Add User tab.
