So little add-ons for ARM!!! This sucks.
Hey guys,
Been a loyal ReadyNAS user since 2008. My first was ReadyNAS Duo and now I'm on Duo v2.
My complaint is that there so few add-on (Netgear official & community) for the ARM platform.
From the Readynas.com add-ons page I found the following for ARM platform:
Non-community (I guess official ReadyNAS add-ons) for ARM:
Enable Root SSH Access
&
... THAT'S IT!!! (maybe the site needs updating because I know ReadyNAS Photos II is available in ARM)
Community based for ARM:
PHPMyAdmin
Sabnzbd
Transmission (which now you have to pay for)
This is seriously disappointing.
I do love the performance of the v2 and the build quality is top notch. I do miss the ability to upgrade the RAM from 256 MB to higher... (RAM was upgradable on the Duo v1 and I upped it to 1 GB RAM).
Have you guys been reading the reviews for ReadyNAS Duo v2? I agree with most of the reviews, which state that performance on the Duo v2 is quiet amazing from price point, but add-ons are pretty shitty. :x
Here's what Maximum PC says:
"ReadyNAS devices usually have access to a wide range of add-ons from Netgear or third parties via the community at ReadyNAS.com, but the vast majority aren’t compatible with the ARM-based ReadyNAS Duo v2 and ReadyNAS NV+ v2."
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/%5Bpri ... _v2_review
PCMag.com:
"Management software issues. Poor documentation. Lack of software add-ons to extend feature set."

I bought the ReadyNAS Duo v2 from Newegg.com back in late 2011. It's been almost one year, but not much to show for in terms of add-ons. Did you guys see the reviews on Newegg.com? 3 Eggs and a lot of complaints. What's going on???
/end rant.

- PalleAAspirantHello
You are soo right, I am EXTREMELY dissapointed. I do not only find the lack of add-ons frustrating but also the fact that is "falls out" of my net all the time and only solution is to reboot it by pulling the powerplug and then turning it on.
I am facing problems like
- Time machine not working 100%
- Itunes server not functioning
- DNLA works mostly all the time
How anybody can say this is a fantastic product beats me !!!
So to be totally honest - I bought another (competitive) product, and now I am waiting for a new and better firmware - if this doesnt happen within the new 3-4 weeks, then I am selling it on ebay. Currently to me its utterly useless :-( - Hey PalleA,
Sorry to hear that your first post on the forum is major disappointment. :( And yea... it's A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT.
Did you end up getting Synology? Have you seen their NAS management software? It's quiet amazing!!!
Let us know what you got!
Thanks
p.s. I've been giving serious thought to move onto Synology because of this...
http://www.wegotserved.com/2012/08/31/s ... -shipping/ - chirpaLuminaryThe Genie appstore in 5.3.6 is suposed to get more apps in it, but ya, been a long time since launch with no add-ons.
- super_poussinVirtuosoI'm testing 15 addon's. for arm which will be on the store
- HERBIEOAspirantThats if the Genie appstore ever works i find the site is either down half the time and when it is not down when you try to log in it tells you wrong user or password even though you know its correct.

I've been trying for the last hour to get GENIE store to work. It keeps saying I already made an account, but I never did. Tried doing password reset, but it never sends me an e-mail to reset the password. This is really broken. Terrible terrible. I'm REALLY considering buying Synology after using ReadyNAS for 4+ years.
So sad. I loved my Duo...super-poussin wrote: I'm testing 15 addon's. for arm which will be on the store
Hey super-poussin,
That's great to hear. Can you tell us the names of the 15 add-ons?
Thanks!- HERBIEOAspirant

Yes that is exactly the same problem i get and a lot of other people the account is supposed to be same user and pass that you registered with tech support, but it tells you it's invalid so if you try to create a new account it tells you the account with that email allready exist's, and if you try the forgot password option it says its sent email to that email address but you never recieve it. - chirpaLuminary
Ya, they use a separate database from Support, but freak out when trying to register an already registered address occurs. Looks like many people with this issue at the moment... The competition is iterating very quickly new software and hardware, while netgear fragments and lets lag their hardware (x86 vs arm) and software (raidiator x86, arm, and now readydata).
I agree the synology system os is very compelling and puts pretty much everyone else to shame.
I hope netgear/readynas can turn it around, because eventually I will have to choose and I don't want to go to the dark side willingly.
