ssh instead of web interface on Readynas duo v2

Hello

I'm sorry that this is in the category Nighthawk wifi ... There is no category for Netgear Nas products.

I'm using primarily linux on my LAN and I find it far easier to carry out day to day nas tasks by connecting to my readynas duo via ssh/scp/rsync.  My local web connection to the NAS is Far slower than a normal web connection to most sites on the internet !   I would therefor like to do everything that is proposed by the dashboard on the local web interface by ssh/shell.  Specifically of concern is to be able to query hard disk health.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

    smartctl -x /dev/sda
    smartctl -x /dev/sdb

can do that (either run manually or in a script).

Another option is to install hdparm, and then possibly run it in a cron job.

My own duo (v1) is now used just for backup, and I have added a script to create a daily log zip file, and copy it with rsync to my main NAS.  The same script also runs hdparm.

The labeling can be confusing here, so it is always good confirm the model.

    • The duo v2 runs 5.x firmware and says "ReadyNAS Duo v2" on the front panel.
    • The original duo (called v1 here) runs 4.1.x firmware and says "ReadyNAS Duo" on the front panel.
