ST2000DL003 or HD204UI
I wish to buy new drives for my Duo v1, but the two that interest me appear to have had problems, despite being listed on the HCL.
Can anyone give me advice on ST2000DL003 and/or HD204UI?
Do they both still require firmware updates (to the drives) to function properly with a Readynas Duo, or have these problems been remedied?
Which would be least problematic?
I'd prefer the Seagate, but I really want to avoid problems.
Thank you.

- OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertI haven't seen that many issues with either of these drives.
The green drives will have a slower response rate and may cause ata errors while the drives spin up.
What firmware do you have on your Duo? What kind of setup is the Duo in? (Backup, Media Server) - jgoAspirantThank you for the quick reply.
When I refer to problems associated with the Seagate drives I am speaking of what I have read in this forum, i.e. http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=63698
Duo v1 running RAIDiator 4.1.9.
This Duo will be used for Time Machine backups of multiple computers and file storage. - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertThere are some issues that I have seen with Seagates where a firmware needs to address some of the changes in the drives.
The green technologies are setup a little differently on the two drives, so you shouldn't see these issues as much in the Samsung. - jgoAspirantThanks. That is what I had thought, but i wanted to confirm. I like the green seagate drives (ST1500DL003) that I have in my Duo v2 (no issues so far), but I'd prefer to avoid any problems.
Guess I'll pick up the Samsung drives for my Duo v1.
If these green drives spin down independently then does this make it unnecessary to set Disk Spin-Down in the Readynas firmware?
