Still/Again - cannot view all movie files on my TV......

I've had this issue for quite a while - through various iterations of firmware.

I'm running 6.10.2 and I still cannot see all of the video/movie files on my ReadyNas.

I can see lots of them but not all of them.

I have quite a good structure - I think.

I have a folder for movies, with folders inside that for A to H etc. and one for TV Shows.

Within each of these, I have folders for the movie or TV Series and the TV Series has folders for each season.

e.g. Movies / Television / Game of Thrones / Game of Thrones - Season 1

But, there are folders that I can see in the Admin browser and from a connected PC that my TV simply cannot see - I have to play these through an Android (Kodi) TV box connected to the PC which is a pain.

Why do these files not show ?

I've tried coping the files to a folder that I can see already - this works.

But, in their original folder....they're hidden.

I've rescanned, rebooted and turned DLNA on and off again - nothing.

What am I doing wrong ?

Cheers

One thing you could try is resetting the file permissions for the share(s).  You'd do this on the file access page for the shares.  After that try rescanning again, and see if anything changes.

Another possibility is that a mal-formed media file is crashing the scan (so it never actually completes).  You could look in the log zip file for this possibility (checking system.log, kernel.log, and upnp-av.log).

      Rescan has not helped.

Files are fine - I can copy them onto a UBS Drive in my PC and then play the USB through the TV.

Many other file on the NAS can be played - it's just some that cannot.

The last time I spent time trying to fix the issue I stuffed up my readynas and had to 'recover' it from scratch - I'm a bit worried about that happening again.

Did you try resetting file permissions before you did the rescan?

Also, did you look at the logs I suggested after the rescan?

If there are mal-formed media files, it is also possible (though time consuming) to find them by the process of elimination. For instance, move all the media files except the missing ones to a different share that has DLNA disabled.  Then rescan, and see if your missing files reappear (they should).  Assuming they do, move the files back in batches, rescanning each time, and checking that there are no missing files.

Another thing you could try is installing plex, and enabling its DLNA server instead of the built in DLNA, and see if it finds all the files.
