Thinking of swapping to NETGEAR
Hi there, I have now lost the will to live with my very old synology 2 bay NAS, having spent 5 hours trying to connect back to the internet after a firmware upgrade. It is a great thing when it works but is to complicated for I want. All I want to do is back up my photos and go pro videoes and some documents and access them from my iphone. having the read the reviews on the 2 bat netgear nas drive it would appear to be an option for me, one review said a simple drive to set up with router and a simple interface, just what I am after. what are peoples views on the interface ??
I have a question, currently in my nas drive Ihave some seagate barracuda 2tb drives approx 5 years old, would these drives be suitable ??? if so would the netgear nas format these drives once installed ???
I use apple imac and have netgear d6200 router Thanks Chris

While those drives would work, you are risking a lot with older desktop grade drives like that. The NAS will re-format them, but it works better if you delete all partitions from them first.
I don't know what you currently use as a backup, but getting a new NAS with new drives and relegating the old one to backup service is something to consider.
