Transfer to new NAS (files and settings)
I have a readynas nv+ which I know should be upgraded. Howver, I keep putting off upgrading to a newer unit due to the fear of having to start from scratch.
Does anyone have a proceudre for moving to a new unit that hey would be willing to point me to so I can evaluate how difficult (or easy) the process may be to try and move while recreating the shares, users, and files of the old unit.
Thanks for any advice.

Unfortunately, Netgear provided no means for transferring configurations from legacy NAS to OS6. I believe that to be a big blunder, as it makes migration to another brand as appealing as to a newer ReadyNAS, but I don't work for Netgear.
In short, your hesitation was justified. You do start over. But waiting longer won't change that. If you go with new drives for the new NAS, you can at least set the new one up in parallel with the old and continue to use the old one till you are confident with the set-up of the new. Then, you can relegate the old to backup duty of the new.

Thanks for the confirmation. I feel like a visit to Synology may be the solution as I do not need to go through this exercise the next time as well.
Netgear has supported direct migration in all OS-6 systems since its introduction in 2013. That includes migration from the arm platforms to the x86 ones. So I don't think this is something you'd run into again.
Though personally I haven't found setting up from scratch to take very long. The RAID build is the longest step, and transferring settings doesn't make that go any faster.
