Trouble upgrading cpu on RNDP6000-100nas
I've been trying to upgrade cpu on RNDP6000-100NAS.
Came with E5300 2.6 ghz.
I have video to view and usb keyboard.
Dropped in replacement E2160 1.8 ghz.
After usb identified it...
- It seems I needed the bios upgrade. It almost gave me a heart attack when I did it.
Once I updated bios the cpu upgrade allowed a boot. Maybe coincidence.
Couldn’t clear root error and couldn’t get to admin. Finally worked.
Had to downgrade then update then upgrade.
What a mess but now resyncing much faster.
Sorry. I meant I am upgrading to 2.6 Ghz.
Funny thing is that at bios post it does show 2.6 Ghz on screen. SO that implies it does recognize it.
What key do I hit to bring up bios screen? Do I hold down or tap?
It stops just short of AHCI requests. No damage just not identifying AHCI stuff which boots into the OS.

One question I have is whether the E5300 2.6 ghz is supported by my 2008 bios.
Or is the 2010 bios required to get from 1.8 ghz to 2.6 ghz?
If so, wonder why cpu speed shows on bootup.
My first upgrade was with an E6600 with the V1.6 2008 bios (that was when the Core2's were still expensive). Since it came out a full two years after the E5300, I would think you're OK. If I remember correctly, you have to get into the E7000's before the BIOS is a problem. Still best to upgrade before you do anything else just to be sure, but too late for you, now.

What a mess but now resyncing much faster.E7600 works fine with the FLAME6-MBV2.0 bios. Some guys are are running quads, but I was uncomfortable with the heat they put out. I did try a Q9550S, which is 65W, but it didn't boot. I was hoping it would just underclock the CPU to 1066, but no luck.
