If both are not working it is probably a bigger problem than just the lan ports.
"... because they couldn't test it." I hope you did not believe the seller in the hope you could get it working. The forums are littered with postings from people buying second hand readynas devices from ebay. It doesn't seem like a good idea, even for parts, as you have no idea which parts are working and which are not.
Are the drives at least ok?
