Ultra 600+ power supply failure

I see along topic of NV power supply failures.

Yesterday my 11-day old, ReadyNAS Ultra 600+ suffered a power supply failure. It had been running continuously, with 6-disks (WD Caviar Green 3TB, WD30EZRX) installed, when I saw the large spark/arc flash out the rear fan, and the unit spun down.

Not sure if this is a rare case, but presume that the Ultra series is new enough that any component failures have yet to be documented. I know from unrelated searches (computer monitor power supply failures) that a large batch of capacitors from China were manufactured poorly, and are impacting a widespread failure in consumer electronics.

Online case report has been filed (16548601), and awaiting RMA info...

If your reseller still allows faulty returns this long after purchase you would be better to return to it in exchange for a new unit. Otherwise go through the RMA process.
  • It would have been beter, I'd probably have it by now... Now going on 2 days after I paid for next day shipping, and the RMA status still reports "not shipped".
  • I would contact them to see what is going on. Keep in mind the unit from Netgear may be refurbished, the unit from your vendor will probably new and unused.
