Thanks, Stephen, that is what i thought. so, it does fit fine since that "part" is optional anyway to the function, so really dont see a barrier to qualifying the drive. but regardless, will keep you posted if any issues pop up. best, George

The guide is mentioned in our instructions as to be used with 3.5" drives. Qualifying a disk where this can't be used would confuse things.

Understood.
I think the bigger question is whether a 3.5" drive is safely mounted if you don't use the guide. I'm thinking it's provided for a reason.

I had already removed the middle "nub" from the guide for a prior drive model.
With that minor modification these drives fit using the guide.
Next time I power down I'll look a little closer.

I had trimmed the middle post out of the guide because the Seagate Drives I had been using did not have a screw hole for that "nub".
Having looked a little closer, the HUH728080ALE600 will fit into the tray with no modification to the guide.

I took the guide out of my RN516 trays and am using them with the 8TB seagates using only two screws out of the 4 (sucks but it's still mighty secure in the drive tray.)

I think Netgear clarified that was ok after my post - don't recall exactly where.

Yeah it should be seeing as to how you have to take the tray out for 2.5" drives. It's really a nifty system over screws but realistically you're not constantly taking and removing and installing drives so the little bit extra time to use a screwdriver over the slider tray isn't that big of a deal. Only thing I cringe at is those who shear the middle nub off the tray. Yes it works but later on when drives end up having those holes again it's going to stink as you can't put them back on (unless you have plastic weld and a clean break!)

Me too. Taking out the guide and using screws is much better.
