USB Drive Name Keeps Changing - ReadyNas 2100

I bought a bigger USB drive to backup my ReadyNas 2100. I realized that the usb drive name was changing everytime I replugged the drive back into the ReadyNas 2100. It went from usb_hdd_2 to as high as usb_hdd_9. After reviewing the knowledgebase, I look for the usb-map file under etc/frontview/usb but it does not exist. I found a file called storage.conf so I tried it. I removed all lines in that file and replugged my usb drive back into the Readynas 2100. The drive read usb_hdd_1 so I started my backup to the new usb drive. The backup job failed so I tried the backup job again. I removed the usb drive from the admin console and replugged back into the readynas 2100. The name changed to usb_hdd_2. Everytime I plugged the drive into the readynas 2100, the named changed.

Is there a different file I should be using?

    Hello Shootland,

    Welcome to the community!

There is no option on the admin page that will allow you to set the NAS to keep the USB disk name and prevent it from changing, what I know is it is designed that way as it is not part of the ReadyNAS volume.

However, you might want to see these discussions:

      Hi JennC,

I've read every disscussion I came across. There is no solution for the ReadyNas 2100. The solution is to modify the usb-map file located in the /etc/frontview/usb directory. The ReadyNas 2100 has no file by that name. I will do another search for it. If I don't locate the file, I'll buy a new NAS. I would hate to buy a new Nas when I still have 53% of my 8TB left for storage.

      Thanks again.

        Hi Shootland,

        I understand and I apologize.

Maybe add a comment or kudo to the suggestion made for this feature in the idea exchange would help.
