I don't get the disks to spin-down on my NAS because I even find the waiting for them to spin up again annoying (but it'd be a longer wait to boot the NAS when I need it on).
For those seeking to keep power usage down, using disk spin-down is a good compromise. Probably much cheaper than updating now to get a new NAS if you don't need it for any other reason atm.
