WD Purple drives in Ultra4+ for Surveillance?

I am getting ready to set up an IP NVR for my security cameras.  The NVR gives me the option of installing an internal SATA drive in the NVR or using network storage.  Rather than having two sets of rotating media to maintain, I'm thinking I'd like to consolidate everything in my Ultra4+ if possible.

The WD Purple drives seems to be optimized for the continuous writing that will be going on, but these do no appear in the Ultra4+ HCL at this time.  I don't know if that's becuase they are newer drives, or simply because the WD Red drives are touted as NAS drives.  Was wondering if anyone has any experince with the Purple drives in an Ultra4+?

  • The WE Purple drives all support TLER, so they should be fine in a RAID array.

Netgear has let the HCL for the legacy models languish, so I wouldn't read too much into the fact that they are missing from the HCL.
