WD20 EFRX: Claim To Fame?
I recently RMA'd one of the Western Digital 2-TB drives that had spent some time in my Ultra-6. Can't recall the model number, but I'm pretty sure it was one of the "Caviar Green" drives. Instead...
You received a WDC "RED" drive. I have several, so far all are working well.
They have longer warranty than green drives, and are tuned for NAS applications. No need for wdidle3, etc. They are also certified for ReadyNAS use by both Netgear and WDC, which eliminates some major support challenges.
Rotational Vibration Safeguard is a good thing - you can see a whitepaper here: http://www.hgst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/te ... 5March.pdf However, the HCL comment is incorrect. The RED drives don't have RVS, they do have a "3D Active Balance Plus" feature that WDC claims reduces vibration. RVS is usually only found in enterprise-class drives, which are quite a bit more money than the REDs.
Anyway, I think you got an ideal replacement drive, with the caveat that it is refurbished.
