Well actually, none of my ReadyNAS units (one 4+ year old NV+ and two approx 1.5 year old NVX units) have a power switch on the back. Just looked at the image of the back of an NV+ on the NCIX website, and it does not have a power switch either. Is your power cord not the grounded modular cord standard on PC's and most monitors as well?
Here is the back of the NV+ as imaged on Newegg (similar image as on NCIX) and is the same as all my 4 bay ReadyNAS boxes.

Here is the power cord that goes with it. As I said, it has been the standard for most items (a few monitors have been different) for over 30 years. I have a box full of them.

If that is not your power cord, is it possible that you have mixed it with another?
