Add Crashplan client
Have been testing Crashplan (http://www.crashplan.com) on my laptop - pretty slick.
Crashplan has a Linux client, so I suppose someone (not me) could get it running on the readynas? Anyone tried it?
Or maybe a Crashplan client as an official add-on, like the bittorrent client?

- fifer55ApprenticeThanks for the great instructions! I am a total entry level linux guy and had to ask a few questions to get it. Almost there though.
One question is when I start the installation on my ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer, it asks me:
"What directory do you wish to install CrashPlan to? [/usr/local/crashplan] "
Do I just click on yes, even though it doesn't exist? Again, I am new to all this so I just want to make sure that I do it correct. I am SSH'd as root and I don't want to mess anything up.
Figured I would ask the guys that have done it successfully already!
EDIT:
I clicked on yes and all these other directories came up. Do I just accept?
CrashPlan will install to: /usr/local/crashplan
And put links to binaries in: /usr/local/bin
And store datas in: /usr/local/var/crashplan
Your init.d dir is: /etc/init.d
Your current runlevel directory is: /etc/rc2.d
These are all the default locations for the install. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! - super_poussinVirtuosothis is bad : And store datas in: /usr/local/var/crashplan
it can full the root
so if you accept you can create symlink to point somewhere else in /c/ to prevent such problem - fifer55Apprentice

Thanks super-poussin for your advice. I figured the back up going to usr folder was bad, but wanted to verify.
Does everything else look OK?
Also, it appears I can manually add a directory. So for data back up something like:
CrashPlan will install to: /usr/local/crashplan
And put links to binaries in: /usr/local/bin
And store datas in: /usr/local/var/crashplan change this to (/media/CrashPlanBACKUP)?
Your init.d dir is: /etc/init.d
Your current runlevel directory is: /etc/rc2.d
Everything else OK? I just don't know what everything else is, since I am not all familiar with Linux. - avpman1Aspirantdkerr -
Do you still have this working after CP was recently updated to version 3.02? Mine stopped working (backup engine can't connect to CP servers) and CP support is implying it's because of the version of the JRE. I've been down 21 days now. :(
Crashplan installs V6.0r17
The debian apt source installs V6.07r3
Any way to get the V6.0r17 from debian sources?
MANY thanks for all your previous hard work on this.
-Jim - orkoAspirantThanks very much for writing this. I installed Crashplan on an Ultra2+, it was dead-simple. One typo...you have:

3) execute "apt update"
That should be "apt-get update". - Philos31AspirantI think everything worked well, the only thing I can not get to work is how to connect to the headless NAS
I found these instructions but I do not understand what to do excactly.

Anybody have some tips on how to do this (I am on windows)
Thanks a lot in advance. Philos31 wrote:

dkerr wrote: I have got CrashPlan to work on ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer. The Java JRE that comes bundled with CrashPlan does not work on ReadyNAS. For some reason it does not find the libsl.so.2 file. Solution is to add the java JRE from debian repositories first and not use the one that CrashPlan offers to install for you.
1) Login to your ReadyNAS through SSH as root. Uninstall CrashPlan if your prior (broken) install is still there.
2) edit /etc/apt/sources.list (you can use the vi editor) to add this line to the end...deb http://archive.debian.org/debian-backports etch-backports main non-free
3) execute "apt update"
4) execute "dpkg-reconfigure debconf" and select the "Dialog" option (1) and "Medium" prompt level (3) This is necessary so that the sun JRE license agreement can be displayed and accepted by you. When you are done you can put it back to Non Interactive mode.
5) execute "apt-get install sun-java6-jre" and follow instructions.
6) Now you can install CrashPlan... download, unpack, run "./install.sh" it should not prompt you to install the Java JRE because the Sun Java6 JRE is already there.
Your're done. Or at least I was... it worked for me (on a ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer).

Worked Perfectly for me, thanks!
