Application Initialization error
When I start ReadyNAS Remote I get error message "Application Initialization error" with buttons "Resatr Application" or "Quit".
I have tried the following:
* Reinstall the program.
* XP computer at work (behind firewall)
* Vista computer at work (behind firewall)
* Vista computer using 3G-modem (not using firewall at work)
* Running application as administrator on Vista computer using 3G-modem
I have created a ReadyNAS Remote account. When I tell the application to send my userid I actually get 2 user IDs connected to the same e-mail adress, is this a problem? (Only 1 of these IDs are allowed access to the disk, but I never get this far).
If I move the mouse over the icon it says "ReadyNas Remote (Offline) - Registering mode..."
I do have access to internet. On my portable Vista computer I have turned off both the Windows firewall and McAfee firewall, still it fails in Step 1 on this page: http://www.readynas.com/?p=1435
I never get to login state:

- chabaoAspirantI got the same error when trying to start Remote at work. Haven't tried it at home yet.
- rrreedAspirantI'm also seeing the same problem. Is Remote using SSH over port 443? Because that port's blocked here, with no chance of it being unblocked.
Update: Got a new error dialog this time. "Initialization Failed. For more informatiom (sic), please visit http://www.readynas.com/remote. Error code: -3". - cap1AspirantRemote does not use port 443 unless you specify in the setting.
If you reboot your PC, are you still getting this error? - rrreedAspirant

Yes. I've rebooted, done uninstalls and reinstalls (latest release, v1.1.9), and still get the same error. I've tried both automatic and manual proxy configuration, too.
On a separate note, are there non-alphanumeric characters that Remote has problems with in passwords? I had to change from my original password (which the web site accepted) to a new one without any special characters because Remote kept telling me to enter my user ID and password even though the fields had been correctly filled. - bgkaempfAspirantHello
I experience similar behaviour and error messages.
- installed ReadyNASRemote client on my PC (XP) as administrator
- run and initialised client as administrator (could not start the client as 'user' becauser "error -3" was raised)
Now I can only run the client as administrator, but not as user. I thinks something got terribly wrong (as I am also not able to connect to may NAS via remote).
Are there any tricks I miss when I install the ReadyNasRemote-Client on PC configured with admin and non-admin accounts? How to run the client as non-admin user?
Thanks for your help

just remakred that this problem (client can only be run as admin) was alreday discussed in (see topic 31495).
Hmm, that is not very user friendly. :?
I hope this can be improved in the future. - rrreedAspirantIs the Remote application trying to contact leafnetworks.net? Portions of that site—like the download page—are blacklisted on our proxy server.

Quite likely as Leaf Networks is used by ReadyNas Remote, in fact some people from there come on the forums here from time to time to give support. - rrreedAspirant
So, is there any way to work around this? I suspect it's the root of the problem, since other remote storage access tools like Dropbox, ZumoDrive, and Live Mesh don't have this problem on our network.mdgm wrote:

If you would like a support session, please PM me and we can arrange it.
I am curious to know why leafnetworks.net is blocked. The website only (not the leafnetworks.net servers) is on a shared server and the server was comprised on 8/6. Since then there has not been any issues - http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diag ... tworks.net
