Do nas's supporting replicate come with licence?Pricing?
I started looking ahead to see but the page for replicate doesn't specify other than "one-time licensed product" though no details on if it comes with the device if I am the first user or what prices ...
No. What I'm saying is that ReadyNAS Remote and Replicate are software that use the same NetGear Virtual Private Network. This software provides a secure connection between two devices. In the case of Replicate it's between two ReadyNAS units.
If you want to use Rsync not Replicate then you'll need to use your own VPN or use a different alternative Rsync over SSH (available on the ReadyNAS Pro Series). Rsync over SSH involves having a SSH key on a ReadyNAS and another ReadyNAS or different device with Rsync. This key enables a secure connection to be made without needing to setup a hardware VPN or software VPN. With Rsync over SSH you'd need to port forward port 22. If you were to enable SSH for other tasks via EnableRootSSH you'd need to be very careful to secure SSH properly to avoid a security risk.
An advantage of Replicate is that it automates a lot of tasks relating to backup like keeping versions of files, backing up a snapshot of your data etc.
