Download folder issue in Transmission on RN6

Hi,

I have a new RN312 and have installed Transmission via the web-ui Apps area, and have tried uninstalling/reinstalling via Genie.

The issue I have is that downloads would not work. Via the Transmission web ui settings area I noticed the download directory was wrong, set to /data/Transmission/Donwloads. When I change it, it does not take effect. It seems to be hardcoded somewhere.

My research has led me to the settings.json file in /data/Transmission/config, when I edit this and save using Notepad++ from windows and via the SMB share it does not appear to take effect. I turn the App off in web-ui, change it again, turn it back on and it is reset back to the original incorrect setting. I have also turned it off via web-ui, run /etc/init.d/transmission stop in SSH, vi the file in SSH, start it up, turn it back on under web-ui and it is still being reset. I've also rebooted the RN after editing saving per above and before starting it, assuming it would start on reboot which It does, turn it back on in web-ui, same problem.

I'm quite new to RN and Linux as a prosumer, Ive probably missed something obvious, please help.

Thanks,
Adam

  • Hello

can you take the last version in my dropbox and let me know : viewtopic.php?f=36&t=70914

BTW when you modify settings.json you must stop transmission before and ensure Transmission can write in the directory you choose
  • Hi. I have a new RN102. I have the same problem with Transmission. I created a folder on the root of the NAS called "Videos" with a sub-folder "My Videos".

I set the download file location to "/Videos/My Videos".

When I download the torrent, it does not download to the specified folder. The torrent seems to download somewhere but I can't find where the file is actually stored.

Super-poussin: on an un-related note, your port of the Logitech Media Server app is absolutely fantastic. I sent you a donation in appreciation.
  • Hi,

Was anyone able to resolve this issue?

I have the RN312 and I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the download location directory.

I've modified settings.json (stopped Transmission, edited, and then restarted), which didn't work. I've also tried to use the Transmission Remote GUI but couldn't actually even get that to connect (...?).

Only thing I could think of is a permissions issue - but not sure how to give Transmission permissions to write to a particular folder (as suggested by super-poussion above) in Readynas 6.0

Apologies for being such a newbie.

Thanks in advance for any help!
  • I ended up having to go into the share settings and reset permissions. Once I did that, I was actually able to change the download folder from within the transmission web gui.

  • I'm having the same issue now on my 314. I've tried all steps mentioned in this thread, i've even tried a manual install but had no luck.

I'm trying to integrate with sickbeard so want completed downloads moving to /home/user/sickbeard/autoProcessTV which I've set from the web GUI, and via SSH in /data/Transmission/config/settings.json and from /etc/transmission/setting.json. I've tried changing folder permission and changing the transmission user but can't seem to crack this. Any idea's? I have basic linux and ssh knowledge mostly through experience on the ras pi.

At the moment downloaded files stay in /data/Transmission/Incomplete.

    Thanks
  • Sorted this now, not as I wanted but round a bout way of doing the same thing.

I first deleted all versions of transmission and associated folders then re-installed the app with defaults. Tested and finished downloads now go into the Downloads folder, I configured sickbeard to process the /Transmission/Download folder rather than autoProcessTV folder (I didn't know this was possible).

I think with all my tinkering I must have messed up some settings along the way. Transmission still can't write to /home/user/sickbeard/autoProcessTV though.

    Cheers
