Egnyte cloud drive unusable with Macs (bug fixed)
Hi,
I run a small business and we have been using the a ReadyNas NVX and Egnyte's cloud file server for about three months now. The ReadyNas has proved to be an excellent choice, and has successfully replaced our aging file server. The Egnyte cloud server was a key factor in our purchase of the ReadyNas and Egyte- together, they presented an economical solution for our staff who work at home several days each month and needed access to files outside of the office (i.e. through the cloud). Up until three weeks ago, this worked flawlessly. We had quick and reliable access to all of our files using Egyte's (mapped) cloud drive on our Mac and Windows/PC (PC) computers. Three weeks ago this all changed: our PC's still had flawless access to the cloud drive, but accessing the same drives on our Mac's became too slow to be usable.
We run a mostly Mac office (including home computers), and now we are unable to use the cloud drive. Our access to the Egnyte cloud is simply is too slow on all of our Macintosh computers now. The Mac's are all using different internet connections, so it isn't related to access. In addition, the slowness problems hit all of them at the same time. PC's can access the cloud the same as the day we subscribed to the service. Nothing has changed on our end: same Macs (combination of iMac, MacBooks/air/pro, Mac mini's; all running Snow Leapord), same directories, etc.
I have had a support ticked open with Egnyte for over a week now. Their responsiveness is decent, but they have not fixed the problem, nor have they given me any good ideas about how long it might take. Instead, they reported that the problem may be with the directory structure which, as I told them, has not changed at all since we first started using the cloud drive. So, if the directory structure is to blame, why then did the cloud drive work so well for a couple of months before grinding to a slow crawl just a matter of weeks ago? In other words, everything is the same on our end, but the quality of service has changed for the *much* worse on Egynte's end.
If anyone has ideas about why *all* of our Macs are no longer able to use Egnyte's cloud server, while our PC's can still access it without any delay, please let me know. In the absence of a fix, any business owner who uses Mac's should be forewarned about the current incompatibility with Egnyte.

- JohnnyEgnyteAspirantJonH, can I get your Egnyte domain name? I will personally review the problem with the support/engineering team and get back to you with possible solutions.
- JonH1AspirantHi Johnny,
I sent you a PM with the information. I can also send (a PM with) my phone number if you want it. Thanks for trying to help me with this!
Jon - JohnnyEgnyteAspirantThis is a Map Drive performance issue with Macs that started a few weeks ago after an update. Engineering has sourced the problem and is currently working on a patch. The scheduled fix is set for release later this week. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working hard to resolve this performance issue.
Thanks for bringing up the issue Jon, your feedback was very helpful to our engineering team. I will continue to track the progress of the patch and personally follow your ticket through.
This is a good example of where I can help the ReadyNAS community. If anyone is experiencing technical issues with Egnyte that needs higher level assistance beyond what our normal support can provide please feel free to post on this forum or send me a private message. Not only does this provide a transparent open discussion for everyone, but also allows me to directly pull in the necessary resources here at Egnyte to solve the problem.
~ Johnny - JonH1AspirantHi Johnny,
Any updates about the fix for the slow mapped drives? Unless there is something special we need to do (i.e. reinstall the mapped drive software, etc.), it is still slow on all of our office Macs. Thanks again for your help with this!
Jon - JohnnyEgnyteAspirantHi Jon,
A fix just went to our QA team last weekend, it is currently in testing. Should have something deployed by this week. Thank you for your patience as we get this issue resolved.
~ Johnny - JohnnyEgnyteAspirantJust wanted to provide an update.
The fix will be going live this weekend. The Mac Map Drive performance should be the same as it was last month.
The engineering team is also planning to deploy an additional patch in one week that would increase the performance even higher than it was before.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
~ Johnny - JohnnyEgnyteAspirantJon,
The fix has went live, can you please verify map drive performance?
Thanks,
~ Johnny - JonH1AspirantHi Johnny,
The mapped drives are working well for us now that the bug was fixed. I appreciate your help. I'm not sure who changed the title of my thread (this thread) but the bug is fixed now.
Thanks.
Jon - JohnnyEgnyteAspirantGlad to hear that :D
