Freeradius with PEAP support

Hi All, :D

I was running a virtual server with freeradius with PEAP support but since power prices are jumping up I wanted to move all my virtual server services onto my Readynas DUO. I have managed to get most services running through the excellent add-ons available here however I cannot get freeradius working. I have enable the apt-get add-on and if I try to install and run freeradius from the repository I simply get a 'bus error' message (I did move all the references for var,tmp etc to /c/).

Can anyone offer any advice or help?

Many thanks

Fastethernet

  • Hi,

I am just in front of the same problem. I did it the same way, you did, but with an NV+.

I got an "bus error", like you and cant find the reason. Tell me, if you find the solution!

  • Hi Pasadena,

    Thanks for the support.

I think I will try and compile my own version from source using QEMU and create a .deb to install freeradius with daloradius for a front end. I'll post my attempts here so you guys can have a crack too. Whilst I'm at it I might well try and set up squid with WCCP support and mysar to view the logs.

    Cheers

Ok, tell me, when you are finished. I tried several forms of freeradius, the older version from Debian and the newest from freeradius.org. Both wont run. One comes with bus error, the other with compiler and lib conflicts... :(

So, if you find a way to use a radius, it would be great! :D

PM me! (and in this forum also, of course, I think, many people are waiting for a solution..)

  • This one's about a year old, but I just wanted to let you all know, that I succeeded in building freeradius for the Duo.
I had to install libssl-dev, libc6-dev and gcc.
configure can't detect the platform automatically. (At least on my Duo all the commands to determine the architecture result in an empty return)
So you have to supply the processor architecture manually: ./configure --build=sparc-linux
"make && make install" runs fine then and you will find your freeradius build in /usr/local prefix

I'll try to read up on the addon-making process in the next few days and hopefully get an addon out then.

did you get any further with this, it would be a great add on "FreeRadius" , that's for sure !
  • Getting RADIUS to work on the ReadyNAS isn't that hard. To bake it into a simple to use add-on is another matter. So, if you're comfortable with doing the config stuff on the command line, providing RADIUS shouldn't be that hard to do (iirc I already did it for someone else, just need to find the binaries)

  • thanks for the heads up Stefan, in the end I went for Packetfence on a Dell Poweredge server I had spare, I've gone "Inline" between the router and an old 48 port Netgear switch ( because the switch does not support 802.1x authentication)
