I was having the same issue on Windows 8.1 - I has tried installing as an administrator and it didn't work, also tried running the program as an administrator it didn't work.
In the end the fix that worked for me was to copy the file FwHookDrv.sys into C:\Windows\System32\drivers and this worked. This file was missing (don't know why the setup program didn't copy it) and it was preventing a service from starting.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, I've been struggling with this for months, this is indeed the issue.
This file is not getting installed for some reason, I hope someone from Netgear reads this, or this thread gets made a sticky.
If your unsure how to make this fix, you'll need 7zip or a similar program to open up the the ReadyNAS remote install file. Once open navigate to $SYSDIR and then open the drivers folder. You'll find FwHookDrv.sys in here. Copy it and move it to c:\windows\system32\drivers. Thats it, fixed!
