Media dissapears from Twonky on ReadyNAS reboot

Hi,

ReadyNAS Duo (RAIDiator 4.1.8 )

Twonky 6.0.34 scanned my ReadyNAS media files and it correctly saw all my music, pics and videos. When I reboot the ReadyNAS all the media files seem to be forgotten and Twonky has to rescan for all the music etc. Is that normal behaviour ?

Thanks

  • Ok well I have seen other threads mentioning the same problem. Can somebody please tell me which version of Twonky works properly ?

I bought the NAS mainly so I could leave my PC off and still stream content, if Twonky is not usable on the NAS I've wasted my time and money

    Cheers
  • Honestly? Imho you've got two options:

    1) Make the guys over at Plexapp.com build a DLNA server
    2) Buy a Boxee Box

Since I couldn't make 1) happen I settled for 2) but would come back to 1) anytime they chose to make it :-D

  • Ok thanks for that......

Anyone with a proper answer ?

    Cheers
  • Well, I guess the "proper" answer then would be: since you paid your money to Twonkey, I guess it's their responsibility to fix your problem, right?

  • I may be wrong but I don't think Twonky support the ReadyNAS add-on ?
  • Ok, that's been unfair and I admit it. But the reality is: there is no really good (DLNA) media server out there for the ReadyNAS (and possibly for any other NAS I've seen so far but I haven't seen all of them). The best alternative I've seen so far is the Boxee Box for it's easy to use, plays all the media I have and it's got a very high WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). But still, the one media server I really love is Plex and what I would love to see is Netgear sponsoring or in any other way supporting Plex to build a DLNA server on top of what the guys over at Plex have already built. I've been through so many "solutions". Twonky, MediaTomb, you name it. None of these had the potential I see in Plex. And that's not because I think their solution is (or in case of DLNA would be) superior to the competition. It's because I believe their mindset is different. Driven may be the word. They want to make something happen, not only cash in on it - or even worse, cash in on just a proposal of "it". That's why I said I'd buy into any solution they might come up with and happily shut down the Boxee Box. And I know that doesn't' solve your problem but I've been - and in some ways still am - walking down the same road, too.

  • I already had a Twonky licence for my PC, just trying to use Twonky on my NAS now. If it didn't have the problem or rebuilding the database after every reboot it would be perfect for my needs.

I'm sure somebody out there knows which previous version of Twonky doesn't have that problem ?
  • Nobody can help ??????

Bummer..... looks like I'll not use Twonky on the NAS........
