mkvtoolnix install on NV+ sparc?

Hi,
Has anyone installed mkvtoolnix on their readynas nv+ (sparc)? I couldn't find an add-on for it.

I'm storing all my movie iso's on my ready nas and would love to batch convert all the iso's to MKV's (so I can play them via dlna on samsung hdtv) . However it seems that I'd need to copy them over to my mac and run this script: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/17637-makemkv-automator/ to batch convert them. That is less than ideal and takes forever with (300+ movies).

the best situation seems that I could install mkvtoolnix (http://www.matroska.org/downloads/linux.html) or (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html) on the ready nas and just let it chunk through the iso's over a period of weeks.

However I havn't had much luck installing libraries on the readynas nv+ has anyone installed mkvtoolnix on theirs?

Any pointers and tips are greatly appreciated.

-Dan

  • While it may be possible to install the converter on the NV, I wouldn't advise to do so. The reason is that the CPU of the NV is not really up to the task. Or in plain words: if you were to convert 10 DVDs to .mkv on the NV and you were 10 years old right now, you'd be dead by the time the NV would be finished with the task. Any 10 year old PC will convert the stuff faster than the NV :) If you'd own an Ultra or a Pro, things would be different.
