- DaRonAspirantsince i updated the os on my duo to 4.1.8 i cannot install transmission anymore.
after a few seconds i got the following message (Bei der Installation des Transmission-Add-Ons ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. - "an error occured during installation of the Transmission Add On" )
the files are there, but i cannot start the client. neither the control function in frontview is working.
all i can do is to run the TRANSMISSION.remove script.
any suggestions?
is there any logfile i can check, why the installation is failing?
thanks in advance,
Ron - Similar issues with the trackers here (on NV+)...
Tracker returned an error: Connection failed
...went back to 2.34b4, 2.32b02 and now 2.04 - but no fix.
@super-poussin, anything we can do to speed up the process? - LichonAspirantI just switched from the native BT client to Transmission and are experiencing some problems.
Here are my steps:- Stopped native BT client
- Installed Transmission and updated it from frontview to 2.50.2
- Moved old incomplete (/c/.bittorrent/) to new incomplete folder (/media/BitTorrent/Incomplete/)
- Added torrent files for those incomplete via Transmission interface, but didnt start them
- Verified all torrents by using the right mouse click menu
- Started all torrents, and waited. A few were quick to continue where they left off
- However, those incomplete torrents that hadnt created a folder yet are giving me an error. "Permission denied (/c/media/BitTorrent/<torrentFolderName>)"
I have seen this should be fixable by changing the entire media share user to "nobody" and group to "nogroup", but I aint gonna do that. This is because Transmission runs using nobody/nogroup. However the newly created folders by the addon, "Incomplete" and "Sources", have root/root rights.
So instead I just changed the "/media/BitTorrent/" folder to nobody/nogroup and now I get a new error.
Note: Removing the torrent and re-adding it doesnt help, so either changing the rights of just the main folder isnt enough or something more needs changing.
This new error is:No data found! Ensure your drives are connected or use "Set Location". To re-download, remove the torrent and re-add it.
Where is the option to "Set Location" ?
I would like Transmission to run under my current share permissions (media/users), but how do I make that change ? - arehsanAspirantI have installed Transmission 2.51 on my Readynas Duo v2 with RAIDiator 5.3.5-T19 beta.
The problem is that Transmision is running as admin:admin, and tries to save files with the same permissions. I want it to save the files as nobody:nogroup and have figured out that I need to change my start.sh file to force Trasmission to run as this user:group, but I don't know how.
This is the current content of my start.sh file (located in /etc/frontview/addons/bin/TRANSMISSIONBT):
#!/bin/bash
#
# This should contain necessary code to start the service
/etc/init.d/transmission-daemon start - WhoCares_MentorChanging the start.sh file is the wrong solution for your problem. Try changing the /etc/init.d/transmission-daemon file instead.
-Stefan - OrionosAspirantWhenever I try to install the Transmission plugin it goes as far as validating the image. When I click install, the 'hourglass' stays on the screen indefinitely. The display on the NAS states 'Installing Addon' for a few seconds.
If I refresh the screen or access it from another browser session, it shows Transmission as installed but not running. If I then reboot the NAS, it gets stuck on 'Installing Addon' and the only option for me seems to be a factory default, since I have no idea how to access that little install routine to disable it (Anyone know how to do that, through Tech Support mode maybe?) and Reinstall OS gets stuck too.
Same thing happens when I click om 'Remove' in the Frontview interface. However, if I run TRANSMISSION.remove manually, there's no issue. And then a reboot goes fine.
Tried it twice now, with Transmission 2.33 and 2.50. No go on either, and I'm getting tired of having to factory default every time. Resync is no fun.
Maybe something to do with x86 4.2.20 firmware? Any logs I can check?
EDIT: Trying to start the service through Frontview hangs as well. - arehsanAspirant

Thanks!
I ended up setting the USER variable in that file to admin:superusers and then I set the umask in settings.json to "2", so Transmission would function normally with the admin as user, and anyone in the superusers group should be able to read and write. - OrionosAspirantWhat the !%@$@!!
When going through the log files I noticed the NAS thought it was tomorrow already. I changed the clock settings, and now the install/uninstall of the plugin works fine?!
How is that related?
EDIT: Spoke too soon. Service won't start, and now removing is hanging again. Sigh... - OrionosAspirantFound it. Apparently the Transmission plugin doesn't function properly if the /c/media share doesn't exist. I had removed it. Now that I've put it back, all problems seem gone.
EDIT: You know what, never mind. I did a complete reinstall to see if everything worked, and the problem is right back. Fourth factory default this weekend. Are there any instructions for installing Transmission myself without the plugin? Or how to install the plugin from within the shell rather than Frontview? - LichonAspirant@arehsan: I changed Transmission to match my media share rights, just like the native BT client did, and have not had any problems since. I wrote my steps here viewtopic.php?f=60&t=60741#p352039
Btw, I also contacted Netgear support first and was directed to their ReadyNAS specialist. He wanted to reboot my NAS and re-install Transmissions to fix the permission issue. Not impressed by this Netgear "expert". I got to keep my uptime by googling a little...
