ReadyNAS Duo V1 RND2000 torrent speed

Hi to all,

i have an issue with the torrent client speed of my NAS.
First of all, here you can find the details about the configuration and firmware installed:

Model: ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.15 [1.00a043]
Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
Volume C: Online, X-RAID, 2 disks, 95% of 1846 GB utilized
DISKS:

Channel 1: WDC WD20EFRX-68EUZN0 [1862 GB]
Channel 2: Seagate ST2000DL003-9VT166 [1862 GB]

I have the netgear default BitTorrent client and Transmission v2.84 installed.
Both client have the same problem, the max download speed that i can reach with torrent is up to 2mb/sec (never more that), but if i try to download the same torrent with my Desktop the speed is up to 5-6 mb/sec.
The Desktop and NAS have similar port forwarding configuration on the router.

Anyone can help me to understand how i can speedup the torrent clients on the nas and what could be the reason for the 2mb/sec download limit ? I specify that the download speed is configured to unlimited on both client installed on the nas.

Thanks.

Your old NAS is much slower than your PC.  I don't know of any way to speed up your torrent add-ons.

      Hi Stephen,

thanks for the answer, you mean that could be an HW limit of the NAS?

2mb/sec is not a very high speed, i can transfer file from the PC to the NAS at very high speed, so i have some doubt on the possibility of an HW limit.

Yes I do.  Your ReadyNAS uses very old and (by modern standards) slow sparc processor and has limited memory as well.  There are several (mostly old) threads commenting on the poor speeds with transmission and bittorrent.

CIFS (and AFP) don't load the CPU of the NAS nearly as much as the torrent app does.  Even there, a new entry level NAS has 3x the speed of the Duo v1.
