It is more likely that the power supply failed. (It can be replaced).

Hmm... The unit starts and I can hear the hard drives spin up. Would they do that if the power supply had failed?
No lights on the LAN connection either... 'Destination host unreachable'
Remove the drives and power up. If RAIDar finds the unit and reports a valid model number and serial number, your VPD is fine. If RAIDar still can't find the NAS, then you likely have a hardware issue, though you can try a USB recovery. VPD corruption usually occurs with a firmware update. Did you do one after you converted and the drives re-synced? Of course, a damaged flash can cause a similar issue and can happen any time. USB recovery will fix any files in the flash except the VPD, but it can't fix a hardware problem with the flash.
The "ReadyNAS" logo is programmed into the display module, so it comes up regardless of whether the NAS fully boots -- it just needs +5V (and not very well regulated 5V). So, there are a lot of things that can go wrong and result in that display, with the power supply (PSU) being the most common. Few of the other possible issues are repairable.
Yes, the drives and fan may well spin up with a bad PSU. Those run on +12V, so the +3.3V, +5V, or +5VSB rails can be bad. Does the fan kick down it's speed, or stay at full speed (both with and without the drives)? The +5VSB (+5 Volts Standby) is the most common PSU failure, as it is on all the time, and it powers the LAN circuit and power on/off. But you will usually also have on/off issues if that's it. Have you had any?
Took all the drives out and started the NAS. RAIDar cant find the Readynas Ultra. No network lights on the back of the Readynas either.

I think I rebooted since then too. I do know that we had a power cut last week so the NAS would have tried to reboot but I cant be sure that the power cut and the non-boot are directly related (I dont know if I accessed the NAS since the power cut).

Fan doesnt seem to kick down, seems to be a full speed (with and wiothout the drives). I havent had any on/off issues that I remember, power button seems to work fine with turning the device on and oiff. Maybe the power cut and power coming back on maybe casued something....
Is there a way I can tell if its a PSU failure seperate from a VBD corruption? Would the LAN port work if the PSU was fine and the VBD was corrupted?
Sandshark Oh another thing, I cant get into the boot menu at all. I put a paperclip into the back button and powered on the unit but it just stays on the ReadyNAS logo.... Maybe that helps things with identifying an issue? 🤞
If I use the USB recovery, do I need to flash the same OS6 firmware that was on the unti before it stopped working or can I just use any version (i.e. 6.10.8 as opposed ot 6.10.10). And will it delete all my files on the drives?
Im so confused....
Ive noticed that both fans on the back of the device are spinning if that helps identify if the PSU has failed....
