It looks like there was a conflict in our packaging that needed to get corrected. The VLC is working on mrmaximus ReadyNAS now.
Others that are interested, there is a fix that is coming in the next firmware release that addresses this issue.

Hello mrmaximus,
What is the model number and firmware version of the ReadyNAS you have?
Apps/add-ons that are not in the list of available ones are the community add-ons that are not yet registered to NETGEAR. Developer needs to register it to NETGEAR.

model is :
RN31600-100EUS
firmware:
6.4.2
About developing, I am not able to develop such Apps/add-ons, question - who can help and develop? I doubt that VLC guys will do it special for Netgear :)

Hello mrmaximus,
Where did you get the VLC package then?
There are app developers who register their app to NETGEAR. http://apps.readynas.com/pages/?page_id=9 is the link for ReadyNAS OS6 available apps. Maybe posting your idea at Idea Exchange for ReadyNAS Network Storage board will help.

VLC package can get from oficial Debian repository by such command in shell: apt-get install vlc
But with installing is problem on ReadyNAS.

(As stated before, this is not officially support from NETGEAR.)
mrmaximus, what output are you getting when you attempt to install VLC?
I am getting this:
The following packages have unmet dependencies: vlc : Depends: vlc-nox (= 2.0.3-5+deb7u2+b1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libavcodec53 (>= 6:0.8.3-1~) but it is not going to be installed or libavcodec-extra-53 (>= 6:0.8.16) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libavutil51 (>= 6:0.8.3-1~) but it is not going to be installed
Which is not quite a conflict with photos2, but a general dependancy issue.
What is the application you are trying to do with the VLC? Just a VLC streaming server?
