remote access issues. duplex, auto negotiate. front view

So 2 days ago i installed the remote access capability. a friend in england accessed it perfectly. the next day i went to we were on the nas, when it was apparent that the nas was painfully slow. shrugged it off and didnt bother. last night i got to watch a movie off the nas when again the speed of it was slow. so i tried to copy paste a movie file to my desktop. normally the transfers move a 10Meg, it was at 5KB. ive experienced this problem before when the network setting was changed to 100M full duplex. so i go into front view to check the settings. on the network interface page, i noticed that it was no longer on auto-negotiate. so i tried to change to auto, apply, refresh. setting didnt take effect i try this several time, still it would not change to auto negotiate. so i try half duplex MTU 1492. then full duplex with large packet, both only reaching a max speed of 4.7Megs. i just now tried to change to auto negotiate, apply refresh, now i cant get into front view at all. i can access nas, 4.5Megs speeds, but no front view at all. any help would be truly appreciated.

  • power cycled nas, its been booting ever since the last post. so 20ish minutes. i can access everything on the nas, just played a movie, and a song off of it.
  • got front view back. still though, the status cannot be changed to auto negotiate, and it will only switch to full or half, achieving 4.5M transfers at best

    Full duplex should be full speed. You might take a look at the cable.

    If you want the best speeds, you should put a gigabit switch between your router and your wired network equipment.
