RN21400 dead but power supply output 12v
Hi there
I have had no issues with my NAS for several years now but it recently died (blank display)
I checked voltage output at the power supply and its showing 12v.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
richard

You checked the voltage unloaded (not a very good test) or under load? When you plug in the supply, do you see any LEDs even blip? How about if you wiggle the connection to the NAS?
Three main possibilities I see are power brick really is bad (if not tested under load already), a bad connector or solder joint of the power connector on the NAS (fixable if you have the skills) or a bad internal voltage converter (not repairable since Netgear does not provide schematics). Answers to above will help differentiate.

Thanks for the reply.
I bypassed the power transformer and ran 12v direct from a power supply
No lights flashing or a blip even with a wiggle.
I guess it could be a bad or dry solder joint on the power board I havent pulled it right down to check
I was hoping it might be a known cause (capacitor) or something similar so I could fix it
