3rd Drive not recognized
I have a ReadyNAS 214 with 2 x 16TB IronWolf Pro drives in Raid 0. I've inserted a third 16TB IronWolf Pro drive. Nothing is happening. Any ideas why? Thanks in advance ...
I think of RAID5 as redundancy only.
Not sure what you mean by that. RAID-5 spreads the parity blocks across all three disks. A dedicated parity disk is technically RAID-4.

X-RAID with single redundancy is RAID-1 for two disks, and RAID-5 for three or more disks. So it would be precisely the same as adding redundancy to your RAID-0 array with FlexRAID. Either way, there would be no increase in capacity.
If you want more capacity instead, you would use the Expand function in FlexRAID. I believe you would need to create a new RAID group for the new disk, and then concatenate it to the existing volume. But I don't recommend having a volume span disks with no redundancy, as a failure of any of the disks result in loss of all the data. It is safer to use jbod, and put some shares on each disk.
I should have been clearer. I'd like RAID5 with the third disk not increasing capacity, simply triggering parity so that one disk is recovered in case it fails. Thanks for the help.
