3 mbit is enough for streaming music, and for a single typical standard definition videos (xvid, mp4). It's not enough for HD video (usually that takes 6-12 mbps). Of course than can be other bottlenecks between your ISP and your remote device.
When you say "share" do you mean multiple simultaneous users? Are you thinking streaming or downloading?
