You'd need to upgrade your 1TB drive to 3 TB to get the additional space. After that, you'd have 3 TB of total space, and protection against a single drive failure.
The other option would be to buy a backup USB drive, copy all your data to it, and then do a factory reset (which will wipe your data) and use flexraid. Then you would end up with 4 TB of total space but no protection against drive failures.
Since you are using your NAS for primary storage, you really need a backup anyway. Without one you will lose your data - it is only a mater of when.
