Adding disks with a hdd caddy

Hi all

new user here so be gentle.

I am in the process of setting up a 104 with 4 x 3tb wd reds but also have 3 or 4 other drives that are spare. I have a startech 4 drive hdd caddy can I put the spare disks in this and attach it to the 104 by usb to increase my storage capacity.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this would be recognised or if more than one of the disks would be. The volume would be separate to the internal disks.

Also, if it is recognized the performance will be much worse than the internal volume.
  • The disks would only be used for storing photos so performance not important.

So would it be better to just get one big external drive to attach.

If you already have the startech, you can of course try it. But people posting here have had trouble getting multi-disk enclosures to work with various ReadyNAS.
  • Ok I think I will forget that idea and just invest in a 4tb external drive to attach.
