Admin/passwords stopped working, NAS unaccesible despite Raidar seeing it.
Of course it had to happen on a monday when I need to work. It was working fine the friday before, of course. Raidar Sees the NAS, as it should, however trying to access it normally does not work a...

Going to a factory fresh condition may be the route of least resistance. But since you are doing that, you may want to consider moving to OS6, which can run (unofficially, meaning no Netgear Support) on your Ultra. It is recommended you upgrade to 2GB of RAM if you've not already, but it's widely available and inexpensive DDR3 RAM and an easy swap.
In addition to getting a more up to date OS (though it is getting long in the tooth), you gain the ability to simply move your volume to a native OS6 unit if the Ultra finally fails on you or you just want to go with a faster/larger NAS.

I'm currently using PandaDome and tried with it both on (as it used to work) and off, as suggested and while I did manage to try an older firefox (not quite as old as version 52) I ran into the same loop that just keeps asking for login/password despite providing what should be the correct credentials. (admin/netgear1)
For the SSH, I had to look it up, as I never had to touch this particular setting and, according to the 2018 win10 update that it came with, it's enabled by default and has been enabled for as long as it's been there.
I strangely noticed that despite having done an 'os reinstall' using the manual's directions, the NAS has kept the 'power on/power off' schedules that I has set up, which I find odd, since the IP has been reset. Unless I'm mistaken and the OS reinstall does not affect anything other than IP and login/password.
I'll give a shot at all that on the win7 system too and see what happens.
I'm quite stumped as to what's happening.
Thanks again for the extra options, sorry it's being stubborn like that.

The OS reinstall will
- reset the admin password back to netgear1
- reset the network configuration to use DHCP with no bonding
Other settings should remain intact (including the power schedule).
You could try doing the OS reinstall again.
One thing you could alternatively try is to
- remove all disks (labeling by slot)
- insert an unformatted spare disk
- power up
That will do a fresh factory install. If you have admin access at that point, you could upgrade the firmware to 4.2.31. Then power down and reinstall the original disks. When you power up again, the boot loader will upgrade the OS on the disks to 4.2.31.

Allright, good news/bad news time:
Removing my disks and starting the NAS with a new, unformatted disk had the desired effect: I got access to the setup even in the latest firefox and upgraded the old firmware to the 4.2.31 version of it. I didn't dare go further, baby steps and all that.
After doing that and removing the 'donor disk' and putting back my old drives, the NAS refused access once again, going back into its old login loop.
My guess at this point is that there is some bad sector somewhere on one or both the disks and I'm tempted to unformat both and re-insert them, starting from scratch. Worry not, all data has been backed up and accounted for.
Think this course of action would work or would you recommend installing an even newer firmware using the 'donor disk' method?
I feel we're getting there, thanks again for the amazing support so far :)

And it worked!
Factory reset did indeed allow me back into the setup in the end, without going through hoops with a different browser as the current Firefox version allowed me access.
I haven't installed OS6 yet, mostly due to the RAM limitation. My first cursory look through the knowledge base didn't give me any answer however as to which RAM vendors are compatible with the RNDU2220 that I have. Is there such a list available or a forum post with one?
I do have a Corsair 8gb SoDimm lying around, due to it not being compatible with the tablet I wanted to put it in. (I realized it was not compatible after the fact, forgetting to check for a compatibility list). But that might be both too much and way overkill for the system to handle.
I'll put the previous message as the solution to my problem, however, since it did get me to access the setup for my NAS :)
You guys are real troopers! :)

Any standard DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500) or faster RAM SO-DIMM (laptop RAM) should work. While the CPU should, theoretically, accept 4GB, what I've read seems to indicate it has to be in two slots, which the Ultra2 does not have. It most definitely does not support 8GB. I don't know if it supports low voltage RAM (PC3L), so best to avoid it. 2GB will cost on the order of $5 or $6 on eBay.
I've used mostly DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) due to availability.

Hm.. I suspected as much. Better to know now than break something trying, that's for sure.
That being said however, everything is back up and running. Currently slowly repopulating the NAS with the backed-up files and it's definitely good to know that the drives inside didn't seem to have suffered.
All of your help was invaluable in terms of problem solving experience with this :)
Hopefully this will help others with a similar issue, too!
