After ReadyNAS reboot, I am no longer able to use mapped dr

I have a Win 7 Home Premium PC that could easily access the three shares on my ReadyNAS Pro Biz. Likewise, my PC could also see another Windows PC. No I am unable to access the shares on my ReadyNAS or on the other PC.

I can go through the Network and get into the ReadyNas control panel which confirms connectivity, but the PC refuses to "see" or access the shares.

I don't know if it is a security setting or something else, but since rebooting the ReadyNAS the shares won't work, but since I can't access the other PC either, it makes me think it is on my PC's end, not the ReadyNAS end, but I need to access the ReadyNAS to do a backup.

Help please!

Lew

Can you access the shares on the ReadyNAS from your other PC?
  • Try using the IP address instead of the name. \\x.x.x.x\share - The IP address is in the RAIDar display.

Then, change its IP from DHCP to static. That way it won't change on you again.
  • Hello, I have been struggling with this problem for going on two months now. Still don't know what happened, but I am still unable to access the shares through Explorer.

Here are the things I know:

    1. If I open Explorer>Network, I see the NAS as a storage device and as a media device
    2. If I click on the media device version, I see the media.
    3. if I click on the storage device version, it opens the admin page on the NAS
    4. If I change the admin address, https://192.168.0.21/admin/ to the backup share, https://192.168.0.21/backup, I can see the contents, but this is in my browser
    5. If I reverse slashes and attempt to access the path in Explorer, I get this error:
"Windows cannot access \\192.168.0.21\backup" check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there may be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network issues, click diagnose." If instead, i click on the "more" option, it says "Error code: ox80004005 unspecified error"
    6. If I click Diagnose, it says "troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"
    7. I use a backup program called Acronis. It is requested to backup to: \\PB\backup\My Backups and it WORKS.... I can browse that directory and see backups as recently as 2 days ago.
    8. If I put the EXACT same link in Explorer, I get the error I mentioned in "5" above.

why is my browser, my media player, and Acronis able to access the same folder on the NAS but Explorer can't?

This is getting serious as my computer's drives are basically full, I am a photographer and can't add more content to my computer, I can't access the NAS, and I have a new computer built to replace this one but without being able to access NAS I can't add data to the shares I want to and can't access the NAS from my new computer to copy data there. That answers another question asked above. I am NOT able to access the NAS from my new computer either.

I HAVE to solve this problem as it is basically going to put me out of business and I have important data that needs to be backed up and I can't.

I also mentioned I am unable to see one PC from another as I could before this happened, so the problem isn't just PC to NAS, but is also PC to PC.

I really need a solution so any help would be greatly appreciated!! :(

It has worked for years with various versions of the firmware so I don't know that matters. I had a guru connect into my modem and the NAS from across the country. He set up the NAS on a static IP and was able to connect to the NAS from an old XP Pro computer by setting up a lmhosts file in the windows\System32\drivers\etc directory and doing a nbrstat or something like that.

For whatever reason, my main PC which is Win 7 Home Premium still refuses to give me Explorer access even after doing the same steps on this PC as on the XP PC.

Seems when I ping the NAS's name, ie. PB it comes back PB.home even though I removed the home domain from the NAS. Also, when I pink the NAS it shows it affiliated with a non-local IP address, i.e. not 192.158. Then today it came back with yet another non-local IP address different than last night.

i regret not making this a Pro version of Win 7 as my guru friend was unable to remote into this PC however after telling him my results he is still stumped on why my two Win 7 PC's refuse to "see" the NAS with Explorer, especially since they can in browser mode and using Acronis, but then those methods don't use NetBIOS.

Also, I used to be able to share folders with the XP machine he was on, now the link for it is "broke", just like the links to the NAS.

    Thanks!!
