Attempting to get Trendnet TV-IP311PI camera to save to ReadyNAS

Hi all - I think I must be doing something wrong - because I've wasted a few hours trying in vain to get my newly installed IP camera to use to NAS to save recordings to - and I've failed to do this in the past and had to resort to SD cards in the camers.

So - camera is installed fine - I can view and save files to my laptop. I want though to set it up to store files on the NAS. I have both a Readnas DUO and a ReadyNAS 104.

The sofware tells me to specify the IP address for the NAS server and the format - I have NFS or SMB/CIFS to choose from - to be honest, I've chosed both - but I'm assuming that the right choice is NFS.

It then asks for the File Path - maybe this is where I am being a bit thick - I am, in my case, enfering the NAS server name, e.g,  '\\NAS-B5-A3-C2\Camera01' - is this right? I get no errors when I save it but I don't think there is any validation. The instructions appear then to say that I need to 'format' the location before it can be used by the camera (I have to allocate no less than 8GB on the Network Storage screen). But, there is nothing to select to format!

1) Can I actually save files from a network camera to the NAS - or am I missing something,

2) Am I right in the 'File Path' format?

3) Is there something obvious that I am doing wrong - or is there a sure way to check the information I am entering and get the darned thing to work? (Do I need to buy a DVR and give up on this?

Very grateful for any advice please,

Warm regards

Ian

      Hi IanL-UK,

      Welcome to the community!

Try to follow Stephen's suggestion and maybe that's where you got it wrong. If it still won't work, you can try to map the said share on your PC then try it again.

      Kind regards,

Hi both - thank you very much for the replies - and apologies for not responding sooner (work has been mad!)

The suggestion worked! (I guess I've spent too much time using Windows and become lazy).

I managed to allocate and 'format' the location for the files.

That said, I've not actually been able to get the camera to save there - but ... one step at a time  I think I need to experiment more with the 'event' settings.

Once again, thank you for replying and providing the answer.

        Best wishes,

        Ian
