Backup Exec 2010 And Other Woes
Hi all,
I have two ReadyNAS 2100's. One is the 'live' box, the other is configured identically (at least it's supposed to be) and has backup jobs set up to backup the data on the live box to the matching shares on itself using Rsync. Both boxes are in Domain Security mode using ADS and I haven't had any issues until now.
I've created a new share called 'BackupExec' and I'm trying to configure this as a Backup-To-Disk folder in Backup Exec 2010. To begin with, I've created the share with Read/Write permissions as default and Guest access. I can access the share through Windows Explorer and create/delete files and folders there. However, whenever I try to point Backup Exec to this share it has a good, long think before telling me that it is 'Unable to create new backup folder. Access denied.'
After that, if I try to access the share through Windows Explorer, I get an 'Access Denied' message from Windows, too. If I go into FrontView the permissions don't appear to have changed - they're still Read/Write with Guest access. But even if I use the Advanced Options tab to set ownership and permissions on the share, the share remains inaccessible. In fact, after the operation to overwrite the permissions runs, the values in the 'Share folder owner' and 'Share folder group' fields return to what they where before I hit the Apply button. So, my first questions are: Why is this happening? Is there a way the permissions on a share can be viewed/changed other than through FrontView? Is there a way they could be different to those displayed in FrontView?
When I create a new share on the 'Live' box in the way I've described, with default permissions, and then go into the share permissions and open the Advanced Options tab, the 'Share folder owner' is 'BackupExec' (or whatever the share name is) and the 'Share folder group' is 'nogroup'. However, on the other box, when I do the same thing, the 'Share folder owner' is 'Administrator' and the 'Share folder group' is 'Domain Users'. My second questions are: Why are these different? How do I set the default permissions on a share?
Finally, my existing shares on these boxes, when I try to change the 'Share folder owner' and 'Share folder group' for the other shares on the live box, it seems to change just fine. But for my new share it doesn't, it keeps reverting back to whatever it was before I hit 'Apply'. Why would this be?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm thoroughly confused and frustrated with FrontView just now, and wishing I could use standard Windows ACLs to manage security!
