Interference with Vehicle Backup Camera
I have anOrbi 750 with 3 satellites around the house. Approx 2500 sq ft house on one acre. Router in one corner, satellite in another corner, satellite in garage (in a triangle configuration) and one satellite in a shed. Xfinity 1 gig wifi. All stations are at least 40 ft apart.
Works well but it is causing interference with a wireless backup up camera in my vehicles. The camera transmit in the 2.4 Ghz band. No problems when the vehicle is in the garage, right next to the satellite, but outside around the house, it causes interference when in use. Buffering and such.
Looking for suggestions on how to fix. I have worked tirelessly with the camera company and all their suggestions including changing camera systems out.
I have tried moving the channels on the Orbi in the 2.4 Ghz band (a couple times, not each channel)
I know it is the wifi system causing the interference as I have unplugged the router and it works fine.
Any thoughts on what to try next? With 3 satellites and the router, am I over modulating? I have 11 Ring cameras around the house and shed. That is why I have so many satellites. Along with many other 2.4Ghz devices.
Thank you
I have tried setting my router away from Channel 11 and it has since made both cameras work properly. I think that Garmin should include that the BC50 is also on Channel 11 of the 2.4 Ghz band.
And they should have known this in all the communications that we had because I mentioned it to them in our correspondence instead of me finding out here.
Thank you to all that responded.I will closing this thread.

If the backup camera and Orbi are set to 2.4G channels that are far apart, they should not interfere. The Orbi app has a feature called WiFi Analytics:
scroll right to find;
- A page that shows every WiFi channel found and what channels they use
- Another page that shows how many WiFi systems are using each channel
Once you find which channel the backup camera is using, set the Orbi to a channel at least 6 away.
p.s. Is it correct to assume that the backup camera communicates directly with a display inside the vehicle? Does it work correctly everywhere except in your driveway?

Thank you for the information. Yes, The backup camera is an after market unit that goes to my GPS. And it does work everywhere else. I appreciate the input.

Is this a wifi-connected camera? Or is it using a different method of connection?

As mentioned, it connects between the transmitter and the GPS receiver by 2.4Ghz. It is probably bluetooth but since the router transmits in both 2.4Ghz and 5.0 Ghz it is causing interference in the band at some point. I know now that it has something to do with the Mesh system.

Bluetooth doesn't have enough bandwidth for video. And WiFi and BlueTooth are designed to co-exist. So it is likely something proprietary (and could even be analog).
You can try reducing the transmit power of the mesh element closest to the spot where you get the interference. That's about all you can do.

I don't know exactly how it transmits, just know that it is at 2.4 GHz. It is strange that it work fine while I am installing it in the garage right under the one satellite but as soon as I go out in the yard to back up to trailers it starts to buffer and glitch. We live outside a city on 1 acre and there are not very many neighbors. I go down the road 250 ft and it works fine. I come home, unplug the router and it works fine. I have worked very hard over a 7 month period, with the company (Garmin) and they can only state the interference from the mesh system. That is why I came here for suggestions.

Garmin doesn't say, but is certainly isn't Bluetooth.

No doubt it is interference.
The question is what can you do about it. The information on Garmin's web site doesn't give any guidance.
Looking at the manual for the 750, there does not appear to be any way to lower the signal strength of the mesh elements. So that apparently isn't an option.

There is power adjustments on the RBR750 series system. 100,50 and 25% under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

More than one vehicle equipped with backup camera?
Would this be a Garmin BC40 or BC50 Wireless Backup Camera?

I have found that the camera transmitter is on channel 11.
I have two systems in different vehicles. I have three GPS units that I have paired and tried in the most prominent vehicle that I need a back up camera in.
It is the BC50 system.

Setting the Orbi 2.4 channel to 1-3 will make it almost impossible for it to interfere with channel 11.
Is this situation completely repeatable. (every time) Turn on the camera, drive to a certain part of the yard, and the video falls apart. same place. every time?
Happens to both vehicles?

1,6,11 are non-overlapping, so anything between 1-6 should be ok.
Still, I'd probably start with 1.

It is surprising that Garmin didn't tell you that before. I am seeing channel 11 in the BC40 manual. I'm not seeing any reference to wifi channels in the BC50 manual, but likely is the same.
You might be able to see the wifi signal on your phone - that would confirm the channel.
If you have an android phone, there are a number of free wifi apps that will show you the spectrum use. It'd be easier to see if if you go to a spot where there is no wifi (well away from the Orbi and Ring cameras).
Unfortunately, not so easy on an iPhone. If the network name isn't hidden by the Garmin, you will see it in the wifi connection list. Otherwise not.

Thanks for the help. I do have apps on my phone to find see wifi spectrum with, that's how I figured out it was channel 11. It does come up as the BC-50 on the app.
I retired from working in live theater and had to use the apps there. I didn't even think about the channels being the conflict. I don't drive the truck very often so that was part of the problem. I just decided that I had to work on this and get it figured out. Garmin had me change out the camera and when that didn't work they wanted to change out the GPS. I kept telling them that it started after one of their update. I have two systems in two vehicles and it was affecting both but the one wasn't as bad. And the truck is a 1996 ford powerstroke that doesn't have a lot of electronics.
With the help here, I will work on finding a channel that works and give an update after the holidays.
Thank you

Perhaps there is a way to manually "go back" to the Garmin software version that was working correctly?
