    Case #: 19365284
Case Summary: NASRNDP6000 - Enquiring about new version of Symantec Backup agent
    Product: ReadyNASRNDP6000
    Update from NETGEAR:
    Dear customer,

My name is Alexander and im the L3 Support Engineer who has worked on your case/request for the past 8 months.

we finally got some feedback from our engineers and symantec. it looks like we will not be able to produce any more update ralus agent addons due to the fact that symantec will not provide us with updated versions of the software.

that means there will be no more development of the addon. i am terribly sorry to give you these bad news, but it cannot be changed.

i will close the case since there is nothing more we can do from our side on this matter.

    Kind regards,

    Alexander

  • beisser is that support agent. While his hands are tied by Engineer dept, that statement is only half valid.

I used to work with Skywalker on building the RALUS package. The updated versions part, I downloaded the 'free trial' from SYMC website, extract the RALUS binaries for Debian from that. Then package back up as an add-on with wrapper scripts for start/stop/etc. Nothing is needed from SYMC to do this.

Maybe I should start accepting donations and make the add-on myself.

Someone running the existing add-on could download the packages from SYMC, and overwrite the VRTralus binaries to get 'upgraded'.
  • Hey gang - I left NETGEAR to run marketing for Backup Exec. Unfortunately, NETGEAR is not a Symantec Technology partner so they have no access to the development code. We're happy to provide and support once that's in place.

In other news, the new Service Packs for BE2010 and BE2012 went into beta testing today with GA expected in July. For any BE questions, hit us up on Twitter, Google+, Reddit or visit the Symantec Connect forums!
  • Sir Dengar, long time no see ;)

Even though they are no longer a SYMC Tech Partner, they can still create a RALUS add-on on their own, taking from the free trial download ISO.
  • I am going to solve this problem by finding a better backup solution than BE from Symantec.
