Backup to ReadyNAS from FTP issue
Hi, Has anyone experienced issues when backing up from a remote FTP server to the ReadyNAS using the ReadyNAS backup page? Basically, if one of the files is over 1GB, the file fails to downlo...

Hi,
Yes I did try this before and just tried it again and it does seem to work fine when using the ReadyNAS as an FTP server and then backing up into another folder.
I'm really not sure what could be causing this issue.
To rule out a timeout issue I decreased my router bandwidth to a rediculasly slow amount so it took a very long time but it carried on going until it hit 1GB for an hour or so.

Is there anyway I can troubleshoot this issue further? Any logs I can view apart from the ones through the GUI?
Thanks

Hello realtek1,
Is the FTP server connected to the same network where the NAS is?
What's the model number of the NAS and its FW version?

Hi,
No, I do not manage the FTP server - it is over the internet - standard FTP on port 21.
I have read somewhere that some FTP servers require a key re-exchange at about 1GB and most clients try to reconnect - perhaps it could be something like that which is causing it.
I have downloaded all the same files using Filezilla, then putting them on my own FTP server and it works. So looks like its FTP server specific perhaps.
Its a ReadyNAS 516, OS 6.5.
However, either way the job should be reported as Failed and not Success - because the log says failed
Thanks

Hello realtek1,
It must be it cannot reach the FTP server on the Internet. Like something is blocking it.
Try configuring port triggering or firewall outbound rules for port 21? If you need to enter a LAN IP address of the LAN server within your network, it should be the LAN IP address of your NAS.
Please also verify which port the FTP server is using, some use custom ports, if that is the case, there is a need to port translation.
Regards,
