Backup to ReadyNAS from FTP issue
Hi, Has anyone experienced issues when backing up from a remote FTP server to the ReadyNAS using the ReadyNAS backup page? Basically, if one of the files is over 1GB, the file fails to downlo...

I think the firewall stuff is a red herring, since the ReadyNAS is connecting and backing up some of the data before it fails. So I don't see how the port triggering and firewall rules can be the problem. Plus the filezilla client works on the same LAN.
Perhaps reach out to the system administrator of the FTP server and see if there is a clue in their logs on what is going wrong.
Your NAS is an RN516? Can you estimate the throughput on the NAS (on the smaller files of course), and see how that compares with filezlla? It is possible that the NAS is throttling the speed, and a connection timer in the remote server might be kicking in.

Hi Stephen,
Unfortunately the FTP server is owned by a big company and they won't look into invidiudal issues especially if its just a client like the ReadyNAS having issues they will blame the client.
I can but I actually thought of this and I throttled my bandwidth on my router down to an extremely small value and made the download take over an hour and it carried on until it got to 1GB and then failed again.
So it looks like its nothing to do with timing out.
Are there any detailed logs I can get to on the ReadyNAS so I can see what actually happened?
Thanks

None that I know of. I looked in my own logs, and didn't see much details on backup jobs. Probably this will need some help from a Netgear developer like kohdee
You could go in with ssh and attempt to run the ftp backup from the command line. You can discover the backup FTP command while the backup job is running - top will show it to you.

Thanks Stephen, I have the command and I am running it manually and its giving me the complete FTP output. Incredable.
It is now running on the 1.5 GB file so lets see what happens when it fails! I will report back shortly.
Thanks!

Here it is Stephen, this is the error that happens (ip hidden for security purposes). After these lines it then goes on but then the job stops after about 3 more small files download.

FWIW - an easy way to avoid the emoticons is to bold the colons.
So your initial suspicion was correct, the problem is a failed SSL handshake. The problem then becomes what to do about that.
If the provider has a support forum, you could possibly ask - showing the command line you are using. Are there any obvious differences in the NAS command options and what FileZilla is doing?
