Basic FTP Problem
I was trying to setup FTP on my ReadyNAS Duo (RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043]) for uploading photos from my iPad2 via GoodReader. But I could not get it to work. So I tried PhotoSync on the iPad and that did not make any difference. And neither did using FileZilla from my PC. So, I figure I must not be setting it up correctly on the ReadyNAS.
Here are my FTP settings:
Port:21
Authentication mode:User
Allow upload resumes:Disabled
Passive ports:1024-65535
Masquerade as: ReadyNAS1
Then in Filezilla I entered this:
Host: ReadyNAS1
Username: <my user name>
Password: <my password>
Port: 21
Here are the messages I got from Filezilla:
Status: Resolving address of readynas1
Status: Connecting to 192.168.1.103:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Could not connect to server
I have assigned the NAS an address of 192.168.1.103. And both my PC and my iPad are on the same LAN as the NAS.
Note that my userID is assigned to a primary group I called "family", not the default "users" primary group. Also, I just enabled FTP today, without a NAS shutdown/restart. But I applied the change to enable FTP and the screen did not indicate a boot was required. I found a screen within FrontView, User & Group Accounts, Preferences pull-down bar that has an option called "Make home shares available over FTP", but it is grayed-out, so I can't control it.
Seems like a simple problem, but I just cannot seem to get it to work. Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks.
Tom

- WhoCares_MentorTry entering the IP address of your ReadyNAS in Filezilla and see whether it works then.

I did that as well yesterday, but I will try it again.

Did this and I still get the same error message.
Any other ideas? - lewis3000usAspirantIs there someone who has any suggestions about this?
Thanks. - WhoCares_MentorI haven't forgotten about your problem. It's just that it'll be another week until I have access to a ReadyNAS again and can do some tests to recreate your setup.
-Stefan - lewis3000usAspirantRebooted the ReadyNAS and now it appears I can FTP via FileZilla.
Checking functionality... - lewis3000usAspirantOops. Actually it turns out I made a mistake and connected to another device on my network. So, I still have the same problem.
- Have you setup access under the Share, for your users/group?
Frontview - Shares - ShareListing - And then added your group/user details within permissions to have access to the FTP?
The greyed out bit you mention: - You will have to enable "Private Homes Shares available for users" for the extra options not to be greyed out.
Just a few bits to give you a nudge, hopefully in the right direction, until the proper techz get chance to assist further. - lewis3000usAspirantUpgraded to RAIDiator 4.1.7 [1.00a043]. Bingo, that was it. Both FileZilla on the PC as well as GoodReader on the iPad work!
Thanks.
